Even though the Hendrix estate denied permission to use his catalogue for the upcoming biopic, that doesn’t appear to stop Jimi: All Is By My Side from firing on all cylindars.
The film, written and directed by John Ridley, who won an Oscar last year for penning 12 Years A Slave, tells the story of Jimi Hendrix and his life from 1966-67, from New York City to London as an up-and-coming musician on the verge of music stardom.
With Andre Benjamin playing the famed guitarist, Hendrix comes to life in every way possible, down to the mannerisms of his speech. It looks to be a sure Oscar contender for Ridley, and maybe a first for Benjamin.
