Oscars 2011: Countdown to the Throw Down – Best Actor/Sound Mixing/Sound Editing/Adapted Screenplay

With less than 24 hours away before the big show, we are going to be overloading you in the time between with a bunch of Oscar previews.  Tonight, we are looking at four more categories, so sit down, buckle in, and enjoy the chaos of the throw down.

Best Actor

The Nominees Are:

–          Javier Bardem – Bitiful

How it All Breaks Down: According to Monty

This is one of those times where the award seems like it is all figured out, but at the same time there is a lot of animosity moving towards who might actually win the Oscar.  All signs are pointing towards Colin Firth for his incredible performance in The King’s Speech.  Especially after the Golden Globes and BAFTA wins, which are the main indicators of how the Oscars will go, I think that it is safe to pull for Firth.  Eisenberg is never out of the equation, neither is Bridges, but this award is everything but decided.

Bryan’s pick by Default: Colin Firth – The King’s Speech
Bryan’s Pick if Hell Freezes Over – Jesse Eisenberg – The Social Network
Bryan’s Pick if the Academy Pulls their Head out of their Ass – Colin Firth – The King’s Speech
Emily’s Pick – Colin Firth – The King’s Speech

Best Sound Mixing:

The Nominees Are:

–          Inception
–          The King’s Speech
–          Salt
–          The Social Network
–          True Grit

How it all Breaks Down – According to Monty:

Nolan may not have gotten the nod for Best Director, but there is no way that he’s going to lose in a sound contest.  if there is one thing that Nolan and his people do better than everyone else, it is making great sounding films, and Inception is no exception.  The mind-bender should easily walk away with this award.

Bryan’s Pick by Default – Inception
Bryan’s Pick if Hell Freezes Over – Inception
Bryan’s Pick if the Academy Pulls their Head out of their Ass – Inception

Best Sound Editing:

The Nominees Are:

–          Inception
–          Toy Story 3
–          Tron: Legacy
–          True Grit
–          Unstoppable

How it All Breaks Down…According to Monty

This is a stacked category, but like I said before, Christopher Nolan knows his crew when it comes to sound.  I would not be surprised whatsoever if Inception takes this tech award too.

Bryan’s Pick by Default – Inception
Bryan’s Pick if Hell Freezes Over – Inception
Bryan’s Pick if the Academy Pulls their Head out of their Ass – Inception

Best Adapted Screenplay

The Nominees Are:

–          127 Hours
–          Toy Story 3
–          The Social Network
–          True Grit
–          Winter’s Bone

How it All Breaks Down: According to Monty…

This category was decided at the Golden Globes.  I cannot think of a year where the screenplay winner has not won the oscar.  The Social Network took the award back in January, and I don’t see this award going anywhere else.  However, Toy Story 3 is carrying a lot of heat and it is the best movie this year.

Bryan’s Winner by Default – The Social Network
Bryan’s Winner if Hell Freezes Over – Toy Story 3
Bryan’s Winner if the Academy Gets Their Head out of their Ass – The Social Network
Emily’s Winner – The Social Network
