Yes, it is another edition of comic books gone wild for the Summer 2011 season, but this time, it’s a little different.
The X-Men series has another installment, only this time, it looks to be more of a prequel. X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughn, will take a look at the rocky relationship between Professor Charles Xavier and Erik Lensurr, who would eventually become Magneto. Check out the trailer and get the crew’s take after the break:
There have been copious amounts of complaining about the story’s timeline, and how it doesn’t match up with the comics. To me at least, this trailer proves that Vaughn is continuing with the storyline shown in the first three X-Men films as well as X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This movie looks like it can lead somewhere, but it is far to early to make a decision, and there is still a long way for this movie to go before it entices me to have positive feelings about this film.
MONTY’S GRADE = B-
I agree with Monty that this film looks like it has potential. The history between Professor X and Magneto will finally be seen which is a nice bonus. However, one has to wonder whether this will be another second rate addition to a franchise that started with two great films. It does have some nice little clips in it of some popular X-Men but with none of the actual original members in it, the film will more than likely end up being nothing more than an underachievement.
