In this first weekend of December, three new films are being released. Will any of them be able to dethrone Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows Part 1? Click read more to find out.
Despite three new films being released this week, none of them have a shot at dethroning Harry Potter. One reason being that two of them are in limited release so the chances of them cracking the top are unlikely. One of these two films is the highly anticipated Black Swan starring Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis and directed by Darren Aronofsky, who previously directed The Wrestler. The film tells of two girls competing for the lead role in a production of ‘Swan Lake.’ The film has already gathered Oscar buzz as well as buzz for a particular scene between Kunis and Portman. The other film in limited release is I Love You Phillip Morris starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor and it tells the story of a gay man who finds love in jail after being put there for being a con artist.
The only wide release is the genre crossing action flick The Warrior’s Way starring Asian star Dong-gun Jang. Kate Bosworth and Geoffrey Rush also star in this film about a Asian warrior assassin who seeks refuge in a small western town in the United States. The film has been advertised quite a bit but doesn’t seem to be generating a lot of buzz. The only film that has a legitimate shot at taking the top spot from Harry Potter is Tangled. The film had a strong opening weekend and has received positive reviews from almost everywhere. Expect word of mouth to give it a strong second weekend. My predictions are (New films in Bold):
1 ) Tangled – 27.6 Million
2 ) Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1 – 21.3 Million
3 ) Megamind – 6.7 Million
4 ) Unstoppable – 5.6 Million
5 ) The Warrior’s Way – 5.1 Million
6 ) Love and Other Drugs – 4.9 Million
7 ) Burlesque – 4.5 Million
8 ) Faster – 4.2 Million
9 ) Due Date – 3.4 Million
10) The Next Three Days – 2.7 Million
